This is an original pastel on paper. This picture was inspired by a photograph taken in Rocky Mountain National Park outside of Grand Lake, Colorado. In this pastel I tried to capture how, at dusk, only the sky and its reflection are lit up, while the mountains and trees are in shadow. The original is not for sale. This is an original pastel on paper. This picture was commissioned by my friends who liked the “Into the Woods” picture but wanted an original rather than a print. By the time I did this second version of “Into the Woods”, I had learned more about light and shadow, so this picture has more depth than the first one. The original has already been sold. When I drew this, I imagined a rainbow over the mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park.  The Gift |
This is an original pastel on paper. This is the first pastel I ever did of a person. It’s a picture of Christ on the cross, but the focus is on his hand with the nail driven through it, representing the gift he gave us with his sacrifice. I had a vision of this picture in my head and felt like God wanted me to draw it. I haven’t taken any classes in drawing the human form (I didn’t even take art classes in college), so I prayed and asked God to help me draw this if that’s what He wanted me to do. I read a chapter in the book “Captivating” by John Eldredge about a woman being both a princess and a warrior in God’s kingdom, and wanted to portray that with this picture.
